Deepak Chopra has been an influential figure in the alternative health movement and an accomplished medical, alternative practitioner. His most important books are Timeless Mind, Ageless Body and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, every published in 1994 and 1993 respectively. However, it was not until sometime in the late eighties he ventured into the world of self-help writing, together with his first book, Think and Grow Rich.

Though a controversial figure who presents himself as a guru, his novels attract a broad assortment of readers. The principles he promotes have had the effect of establishing him as a pioneer in the other self-improvement circles. But, there have always been critics who question the methods that he adopts. Deepak Chopra critics claim he takes a haphazard approach to self-improvement through motivational saying and self-help books. They also point out that his teachings contradict the common notion that knowledge alone will lead to self-improvement.

Deepak Chopra’s method of attaining personal development isn’t far removed from other alternative medicine practices. His basic premise is that one can achieve a state of personal development by fostering positive thinking in oneself and boosting one’s self-confidence level. By applying such teachings as the eight-limbed ladder of self-help, one is able to attain self-actualization, which then leads to the achievement of the goals set by the mind. As such, Deepak Chopra presents himself as a prominent figure within the alternative medicine community.

However, this doesn’t mean that Deepak Chopra’s influence goes beyond the boundaries of alternative medicine. He’s still very much a part of the mainstream health care community. For Instance, when he published the book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, he used the book to launch an initiative for the United States Army. The book was later turned into a television series and currently has over one million copies in print. There’s even a movie version of the publication available on DVD.

Additionally, Deepak Chopra continues to hold many credentials beyond the classroom. For instance, he’s the author of numerous medical books and is a certified chiropractic physician. Additionally, Deepak Chopra is a former contestant on the reality TV series”Survivor.” In this series, he was portrayed as a contestant who struggled with a serious heart condition. As a result of this, he held many discussions about improving one’s self-health through diet books, seminars, and speaking engagements.

One of those things that Chopra’s talk radio shows address is self-improvement. Many of his books and videos address this matter. He discusses how to use the ability of the mind to deal with some of the difficulties we encounter in our own lives. For instance, he spoke about the need to change our negative mindset. According to Chopra, if we continue to think that way, then we will stay stuck in our misery.
